Tokina 300mm f/2.8 manual focus with the oversized lens shade screwed on. With a 14mm E2 extension tube, the closest focus fits about a 120mm wide subject (4-3/4 inches) and just the bare lens' closest focus fits about 6-1/2 inches wide. If I add a 1.4 teleconverter and extension tube, it's about right for butterfly/dragonfly closeups framing a 90mm (3-1/2 inch) wide view at a distance of 6 feet at f/3 440mm however, I can still get a better image using the 105 f/2.8 VR macro with stacked 1.4 & 2x teleconverters at f/8 294mm even with having to increase ISO, the VR works so still better. Perhaps the 300 could do better with 28mm extension stopped down a bit. - 9-20-07-300mm-photography-Misc - Paul Furman Photography
